The Proud Woman

The woman stood upon her front porch

I saw her in passing
As I drove past her house
And thought 2 myself
Have I ever seen a woman as proud?

She wuz beautiful and black
Head held high despite being attacked
Time and again
Simply 4 the color of her skin

The woman stood upon her front porch

And I wanted 2 cry out
"I'm sorry 4 everything U have 2 go through!"
But by then my car
Had passed from her view

Besides
That would be pity
She wouldn't want that
I told myself as I fought the urge
2 turn around and go back
Walk up 2 her and say
U are the most beautiful woman I have seen
In many a day

The woman stood upon the front porch

Blessed with child inside
A young black warrior
Who will soon be born
Filled with his mother's pride
